TATA Certified Artist
3D Areola/nipple tattooing
What is a 3D Areola Tattoo?
One of the more rewarding training courses I have attended in recent years is 3D Areola and Nipple Tattooing. Women may need this service due to breast reconstruction post-mastectomy or for a variety of other reasons including post breast augmentation or gender reassignment. It is called a 3D tattoo because it is designed to closely replicate a natural 3D nipple onto flat skin. As you can see from the images, they are designed and shaded to match the clients natural skin tones to create a realistic looking result.
How does it work?
Using the highest quality cosmetic tattoo pigments and my extensive knowledge of colour theory, shading and fine art techniques, the nipple shape and design is created to match the clients skin tone and dimensions. The tattoo is created in a way which realistically gives the illusion of 3D depth and realism. Each design is individual to each client and is created in a compassionate and dignified manner.
Why do people have them?
Many of my areola clients feel that their areola and nipple tattoos are a big part of their healing process. I have worked with ladies who have felt unable to even look at their breasts themselves, let alone let others see them. I have seen first hand the impact to self confidence, self belief and quality of life this treatment can have. Clients have told me that they have seen big changes in their outlook on life, the way they feel about themselves as a women and also the improvements it has had to their marriages. It may be a small treatment but it can be a big part of women’s personal healing process.
How many sessions do I need?
Each client requires two sessions. The first session lasts around 2 hours per nipple and this is where the majority of the work is completed. The second session is shorter and is provided to ensure that all areas of the tattoo have healed well and to perfect any areas which may not have held the pigment as well. The healing process is on par with other cosmetic tattoos and full aftercare instructions are provided.
Is it painful?
3D areola and nipple tattooing uses needles similar to regular cosmetic tattooing and so the sensation is on a par with this. However, many ladies who have had mastectomies often lose sensation due to nerve damage from the operation. Therefore, most clients will not feel any discomfort at all.
How much does it cost?
While I do have pricing in place for this procedure (details of which can be found on my booking system) I also offer one free service every month for post mastectomy clients. I offer this service as a small token of respect for women who have been through a great deal of physical and emotional trauma. Please feel free to contact me for further details of this free service and to see my current wait times. Alternatively, you can use my online bookings system here to make a paid booking.
